The Glen Arbor Players (GAP) begin their 2021 season this week with My Weekend in the Catskills, which is the Michigan premier of a light-hearted comedy by playwright Vince Rhomberg of St. Louis. This is the first live play presented by the troupe in the past 18 months.

Since 2011, this regional readers’ theater group has presented over 30 different plays, with community members filling roles as actors, directors, assistant directors, technical staff, and publicity coordinators. GAP veteran Teddy House directs My Weekend in the Catskills with an all-local cast: Ron Smith (Manny); Tom Cole (Lester); Linda Miller (Dorothea), Nancy O’Hara (Mabel); and Janet Stipicevich (Rachel). Jean Jenkins is assistant director, Bill Meserve is the sound designer and Fred Ford is the lighting tech.

Pete LaPlaca, chair of the steering committee for GAP, shares that this hilarious comedy is about “a sexy senior weekend at a resort in the Catskills,” but that it also reveals “how these four individuals awaken their souls from grief and develop restorative relationships over just a weekend…”

Performances are at the Glen Lake Church, 4902 W. Macfarlane Road, Glen Arbor on July 8, 9 and 10 at 7:30pm. Attendance is free, and goodwill contributions are welcomed. Refreshments will be served.
